Bye Bye, Old Logo!

Picture
So, what is wrong with the old grkids.com logo, you might be wondering?  Well, after a year of using it, I've discovered (2) things:
  1. People think I'm in the birthday party business and
  2. It's too hard to put on T-shirts, etc, when I need something simpler.

After consulting my Facebook Friends, I decided to have Stephanie Pearson of graphic i do the new logo design.  This blog entry documents my experience through the process...read on to see what we came up with and how we arrived there.  Oh, and I think it is worth mentioning that this whole process was done over email...I'd still love to meet Stephanie in person :)

First, I let Stephanie know my concerns with my old logo.  She asked questions about the look I was going for and got a handle on the details.  Based on our initial conversation, this is what she came up with.

I liked a lot of the options, but I realized that it was important to me that the new GRKIDS.com logo be easy to read.  That narrowed our options down a bit.

Since clarity was important, I picked a logo that had great colors but didn't say "kids" like I wanted it to.  Stephanie played around with the logo I chose and I could tell that we were getting closer, but I really wanted something a bit more playful.

Stephanie is a woman of great patience!  She went at it again, this time playing around with the fonts to see if we could make it a bit more playful but still easy to read.

So we took our favorite logo and asked Stephanie to put a balloon in the picture, to help convey the "kid" part of the website.  Finally, we had a winner!  (See below to see the logo we finally selected.)

I can't say enough about how great it was to work with Stephanie, and I thought her rates were really reasonable.  If you are ever in the market for a new logo or graphic design, I'd give Stephanie a shout.

Hello, New Logo!

Not bad. It's simple but the Calder, a River or Museum would better depict GR than a balloon.

Oh that looks amazing! And thank you for taking us through the creative process as well - it's always fun to see how/why choices are made. I love it! :)

I went with the balloon to try and highlight the kid nature of the website. Hopefully it works :)

I LOVE it!! Very cool logo, I think it's perfect. What an interesting process too - I had no idea how that worked.

I love the new logo. Just because it has to do with GR doesn't mean it has to have to the river, the Calder statue or anything else that is only in GR. It just isn't necessary.
