Before you know it, the leaves will be beautiful shades of orange & red, the days will be cooler & shorter, and football will be on the minds of many.  If you plan it right, your family could also enjoy some of the fall festivities at Meijer Gardens (the giant pumpkins are a personal favorite!).  And if you're lucky, you could do this for free!

Meijer Gardens has donated a family 4-pack of general admission tickets, a $48 value.  Some of the fantastic happenings this fall include:

Favorite fall memories with my kids always include what I remember as a child. Hayrides out to the pumpkin patch, making apple cider, and burying each other in leaves. Having these annual traditions brings back childhood memories for my husband and I and creates new memories for the next generation.

What a fantastic contest. Thank you for hosting!

Summer is going by too quickly now. We had a wonderful weekend at Greenville's 45th Danish Festival. The rain made the good times more memorable. If you missed it, it is the third full weekend in August, so plan for it in 2010. The Saturday parade is a lot of fun, and many free activities for the family to enjoy. On Sunday at the Community Center is kids day, for just one time fee of $4.25 there was unlimited camel, elephant, and pony rides. Not to be missed were the pinewood derby, bubblegum contest, jump rope contest...(there was some serious competition). It was a great weekend so put it on your 2010 calander. I am looking forward to making the most of the summer days left.

In the precious two years I've had with both of my kids, my favorite fall memory happened last year on a spontaneous trip out to the woods on a sunny fall day--the kind of day with a denim-blue sky that's all the more accentuated by that certain kind of tree with orange leaves so intense they're almost fluorescent. We went for a walk--myself, my husband, our daughter and son, and my parents. We came upon a clearing that was carpeted in leaves of all colors and started throwing leaves up in the air and letting them rain down around us. The look of pure joy on my kids' faces was unforgettable. Pure, innocent, complete joy! On our way back with my son almost asleep in his stroller, my daughter took turns riding on the shoulders of her daddy and grandpa, resting her cheek on the top of their heads, holding the ear of fall corn she had found in the field. Though we took many pictures that day, the day's memories and images will be forever real and cemented in my mind.

My favorite fall memory so far is from when my oldest son was 18 months old. We went on an apple orchard tour and he picked and ate his first uncut apple off a tree.

My favorite fall memory was last fall. We took a family trip to an apple orchard/pumpkin patch. They gave us a hay ride out to the apple trees. We were able to walk all thru the orchard and take our time picking apples. My daughter was 2 1/2 and had so much fun picking her own apples. She didn't care if they were on the ground or in the tree. When we were done there we got to go the pumpkin patch where she ran all over searching for the perfect pumpkin. The pumpkins were pretty picked over by this point in the season, but she didn't care. But we were still able to find a small pumpkin that was perfect for her! It was a great day!

Favorite fall memory...going to the orchards to pick apples, eating honey crisp apples, having my daughter ride the "pig train," taking a hayride around the orchard, eating hot donuts with cold cider, bundling up, listening to the leaves crackle under foot, the beautiful kaleidescope of fall colors bursting throughout the landscape, taking pictures at various pumpkin farms, going to the farmers market to get fall decorations and breathing in the glorious crisp air of autumn time.

My sons love to run through mazes in the fall. My 4 year-old son always mentions that he has two favorite mazes: the musical maze (at the Meijer Gardens) and the corn maze at the pumpkin patch. After finding our way through the corn maze, we always treat ourselves to apple cider and a donut.

My favorite fall memory of my kids is when they were playing at the park and trying to stomp on daddy's head when they seen him below the play area. (the lil holes they have on the play ground)
It was our first time hearing them say "stomp". (they are twins and have a speech problem)

My favorite memory is watching our then 9 month old daughter try to catch the colored leaves as they fell around her. The look of joy on her face is priceless and the pictures captured that day are some of my fondest. Can't wait to see what she does this year as a toddler!

Favorite fall memories are walking to the park and crunching leaves the entire way there...once there we find the huge pile of leaves created by the city and run up the pile and run back down. Or course daddy usually gets barried a time or two!

My favorite fall memory includes going to an apple orchard and picking apples, choosing the kids' pumpkins, eating cider and donuts, a hayride, and taking pictures in the colorful leaves. Seeing the kids' smiles were enough of a memory for me. Thanks for sharing!

Our favorite fall memories are from the festival in our former hometown. There is a huge hill on Main street in that town (Vassar, MI) and every year they host the "pumpkin roll." Which is exactly what it sounds like...you line up and take turns rolling pumpkins down the big hill! :) It great fun for everyone and you get to see friends and neighbors, raise a little money for the local charity, and enjoy some of the freshly made pumpkin pie from the local volunteers who sell it. :) We miss this festival, but are looking to make some of new memories here in our "new" town. :)

My favorite fall memory as a kid is going to my grandparents house to rake and burn leaves. We didn't have trees in our yard, but they had many! It was great fun to play in them and to this day the smell of burning leaves still reminds me of them!

My favorite fall memory with the kids would be going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect pumpkin. Then a few weeks later the kids & I search online for the best carving template and we have a contest as to who has the coolest pumpkin. (Daddy & Katie or Kevin & I)

My favorite fall memory was taking my son to the Orchard when he was just over 1 year old. He was mesmerized by the animals and horses. He loved picking apples off the trees and going to see the pumpkin patch. He was running to show me the apple he picked, tripped and fell into a huge mud puddle. He got up grinning from ear to ear still holding that apple. =) He was so proud of himself. I love watching him grow and learn new experiences. I will never forget that day and his award winning smile. =) Thanks for this contest!

We were invited to a pumpkin and gourd patch. The kids were allowed to pick a pumpkin for themselves and as many gourds as they wanted. My son was only a year and a half. It was very funny to watch him be so choosy. When they were all done we shared the gourds with my daughter's preschool class and they decorated them at their Halloween party. The kids had fun and got to share too. It was a nice experience! Thanks for this contest. It's nice to see others memories too!

Our little guy is still a toddler, so we don't have a ton of fall memories yet, but we do look forward to making them with him! My favorite fall moment so far was last September we went for a walk at the Blandford Nature Center, our little man was in awe of all of the different colored leaves and the stream that runs through the nature center and all of the critters. His awe brought awe to my husband and I as we started to really see the world through our son's eyes, it was such an amazing time and reminded us to slow down and look at the world through the eyes of a child, when you do that, you too, will feel the awe.

We took all three of our children who were ages 11, 8, and 5 at the time to Reilly's Summer Seat Farm in Pennsylvania. We started the day with a hayride to the pumpkin patch where each child was to pick any pumpkin that they could carry. Well, my 5 year old decided he wanted the biggest pumpkin he could find but there was no way he could carry it. So, we asked if there were anything that we could do to make an exception. We were told no, so we decided to get my oldest who is a female to carry the one that our youngest son wanted and he hers and all would be fine. The problem was that our daughter couldnt even carry the pumpkin it was huge. So once again we went back to problem solving mode. Our middle son came up with a game plan. He said 'team work is what we need momma.' The next thing I knew both my daughter and son put their pumpkins down and all three of them collectively carried the huge pumpkin to the trailer. They talked about it and decided that they just wanted the one big pumpkin. We were so pleased at the cooperation and selfless thoughts of our children that we decided to take them out for ice cream. This memory remains as clear as the day it happened 12 years ago.

Fall is our favorite time of the year-the array of color that paints the landscape, the thrill of jumping in leaf piles :-), the crisp smell of the changing season, cool nights sipping hot apple cider and snuggling around the fireplace reading a good book as a family :-) It's a time to slow down after the fun of summer...a time to reconnect with quiet family times.

My family and I love our annual fall trip to Klackle orchards. There is so much to do and we spend the whole day. We pick apples, have lunch, go to the pumpkin patch, take wagon and tractor rides and the kids play in the inflatables. We always leave with lots of apples, donuts and cider to remember our time and help bring the fun of fall home.
