Here's your chance to tell others about the Mom's Groups or Dad's groups that you belong to.

Some of the sites that I'm aware of are:

La Leche League of Grand Rapids : Offers support and help for nursing mothers.

Grand Rapids Dads: A group for stay-at-home dads and their kids in Grand Rapids.

MOPS- Mothers of Preschoolers: Offers bi-monthly meetings for mothers of children who are not yet in school.

Mom's Club of Grand Rapids- North

Grand Rapids Mothers & More: an organization that cares for care-givers.

Let others know what it is like, why you joined, if you recommend it, how someone else could get in on the action, anything else other parents would like to know.

It would also be great to post a website address so others could check you out!

Also, I know that there is an parent networking site called West Michigan's Parent network that helps parents organize playgroups and has a discussion forum.  it's a great resource that I use myself.

Six months after my now three year old daughter was born, I was looking for a mom's group to join. I stumbled upon the website for Mothers and More and decided to check out a meeting with a friend of mine. What I REALLY stumbled upon is one of the most amazing group of diverse, thoughtful, insightful and intelligent women that I'm now proud to call my friends.

Having been a member for 2 1/2 years, I can honestly say that this group has gotten me through some of the rough patches of parenting and has allowed me to retain more of my identity as a person than I ever thought possible. I'm a stay at home mom, so the weekly playgroups and children's outings have been a lifesaver for me. But I've equally enjoyed and benefited from the mom's nights out, chapter meetings and advocacy work our chapter has done.

With close to 70 members now, we have women from so many different backgrounds - I'm always amazed at how diverse we are, and yet how connected we've become because we're moms. There's really something for everyone in this group. As I said, we do weekly playgroups for those with small children, but we also have a seasoned moms group for women with school-aged kids. We have a book club, fitness club, movie nights, game nights, couple's events, and actively participate in advocacy work throughout the community. We also hold twice monthly meetings on topics from Encouraging Children's Literacy (our meeting last night, which was GREAT!) to Keeping Romance in Your Marriage to How to Keep Your Resume Alive. There's just so much to choose from!

Also, because we're welcoming of ALL women, whether you work or stay at home, we really tailor our schedule of events to try and fit into everyone's busy lives. We have just as many events on weekdays as we do weeknights or weekends.

I really cannot speak highly enough of this group. I can only imagine what we could accomplish if every mother in Grand Rapids had the support of a group like this - our kids and our communities would SURELY benefit.

Check out the website if you want more info, or, better yet, come to our next meeting on March 2nd. We'd love to see you there!!
