Getting the Tree at Hart's Tree Farm 12/04/2009
Our family (Sarah Cavanaugh here) visited Hart's Tree Farm in Rockford last weekend. It's a family tradition at our house and the cutest little tree farm around! We arrived this morning at about 10:15 a.m. It was still pretty quiet and I highly recommend going early on the weekend. It's a completely different story by 11 a.m. - much more crowded! My three and five year old noticed the petting zoo area right away. Hart's has a lovely little barn with bunnies, ponys, goats, and a pig to visit! Next up, we hopped on a tractor to go find the tree of our dreams. It was nicely laid out with color coded tractors to get you to the tree you would like in the field. Trees run about $35 to cut your own and $45 pre-cut in the main area (cash or checks only). They run about 7 - 10 ft. in height. After a short, fun wagon ride, we hopped out and chose our beauty! Bundle up and wear some boots - it's a little muddy out there. After watching the guys shake and bundle our tree (the kid's favorite part), we headed over to the refreshment tent for hot chocolate. I picked up a reasonably priced wreath for our door for $16. They also offer boughs of greenery for $10/bundle. Hart's Tree Farm is open daily, beginning the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve from 12 - 6pm Monday - Friday and from 9am - 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
